Broken homes and broken lives

Boys trying to be men

Beaten wives

Twisting paths

Closed eyes

Hands up

Reaching to the skies

Crying out the silent prayer

The people go on unaware

A heavenly prison we live

Chains are heaviest

When they’re not seen

It’s all been erased

The brutality

But no one looks past

And so they carry on

With a half filled glass of

Knowledge over who they are

"Entertainment"

We’ve been nothing more than entertainment

And look at us now

How entertaining it is

To see us beaten

To see our communities robbed

Of any possibility

Of prosperity

To rape us

And kill us

What a fun thing this has become

"Entertainment"

We’ve been nothing more than entertainment

And look at us now

How entertaining it is

To see us beaten

To see our communities robbed

Of any possibility

Of prosperity

To rape us

And kill us

What a fun thing this has become

But like any character you

See on the screen

We don’t have an idea of what we are

We’re just “tryna do right”

"But damn these streets are mean
Isn’t that an excuse?
Isn’t that why you’re sucked back into this hellish cycle?
And so is your brother and your father

And your

Son?
Ah but that’s right,

You’re not man enough to be called a

Father

So you leave it to these half grown girls

To handle what a grown boy could never see

His reflection

Is poverty
